Since 2009 Dr Jon Ruddle has led a busy paediatric eye care clinic at Launceston Eye Doctors. Between his regular bimonthly surgical and consulting visits he works closely with experienced locally based orthoptist Julie Barbour and Colleagues to best manage the full range of childhood eye conditions.
Jon graduated from medicine at Melbourne University in 1998. He undertook Ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2007. Further Fellowships to advance his training in paediatric and genetic ophthalmology took place between the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and in London at Moorfields Eye Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Currently Dr Ruddle heads the Ocular Genetic Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital. In both institutions he cares for glaucoma of all ages. His paediatric surgical expertise covers childhood squint, complex cataract and glaucoma surgery of all ages. His Melbourne based private practice is Melbourne Children’s Eye Clinic in Parkville.
Jon continues as a Senior Research Fellow through the Centre for Eye Research Australia with publications and projects incorporating genetic investigations into the care of both common and rare paediatric ocular conditions. He has published work on clinical outcomes in paediatric cataract and glaucoma seeking to find the best solutions for these difficult conditions.
