JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Title:                        CSSD / Instrument Cleaner

Reports to:                            CSSD Supervisor

Responsible to:                    Theatre Manager

 

Qualification & Experience:

 A general knowledge of instrument care and understanding of NSQHS infection control    standards and sterilization is preferred.

Certificate III in Sterilization Services or similar is preferred or willingness to work towards achieving the certificate

Background experience within the medical industry is desirable.

 

Attributes:

Self motivated.

Ability to liaise with all staff and clinicians.

To have the ability to accept and implement changes, when necessary.

To be punctual and reliable and keep absenteeism minimal.  

 

Mode of Dress:

Theatre attire as directed.

Covered in shoes are required

Specific Skills/Qualities:

A good working knowledge of sterilisation and infection control standards

A willingness to participate in the quality assurance programs

A commitment to attend staff education sessions.

Excellent time management skills

 

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

Provides effective disinfection and sterilization services

Disassembling, decontaminating, inspecting and reassembling surgical/medical instruments in accordance with established procedures.

Packing and wrapping, sealing and labelling instruments and sets.

Contributes to effective communication, facilitating teamwork and co-operation within the Department and with other Departments.

Apply the principles of microbiology & infection control to all activities in restricted and semi-restricted areas as per ACCORN standards.

 

General Duties:

Responsible for the care and handling of all surgical instruments, sterile stock, linen, supplies and equipment in line with competencies.

Performs all duties in accordance with position description & CSSD Technician Competencies

Demonstrates knowledge of the AS/NZS 4187 standards

Initiates and maintains effective communication lines and teamwork/collaboration within    the Operating Suite & CSSD

Maintains a safe clean environment using only authorized cleaning products and adheres to the principles of infection control

Promotes & adheres to Occupational Health & Safety Policies & Procedures

Any other tasks assigned to you by your supervisor that you are capable to perform.

Participates as a team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment

Attends all compulsory core education and teamwork within the facility

Set up instrument wash room with distinct areas for clean and dirty.

Set up of all Sterilisers

Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to all matters pertaining to the organisation’s activities and objectives. Failure to observe this requirement may be regarded as misconduct and will be dealt with according to the employee confidentiality agreement.

 

 

Staff Appraisal:

A formal performance appraisal shall be completed with the Theatre Manager and or CSSD Supervisor after three months employment and annually thereafter.
