Corneal grafts
The cornea is a transparent structure that covers the front of the eye.
It is a dome like structure through which the iris and pupil can be seen. The cornea helps the eye to focus the image on the retina, if the cornea is unclear, marked, damaged or misshapen this can affect a person’s ability to see.
In circumstances such as this, a person may require a corneal graft. A corneal graft involves the removal of a portion of the compromised cornea. It is then replaced with healthy corneal tissue from a donor and stitched in place. The healing process is slow and visual rehabilitation can often take a long time.
